Transdimensionalism 1:01... & Parallel Worlds

"Blueprint" for Unit 3 Aggregate 6 - 1983, DS

"We have ways of determining when a physical body is no longer, obviously alive. And, yes, we know how different living structures come together to produce more complex structures. These eventually result in a creature who can, quite possibly, walk to a local diner and order "home-fries". But, ultimately, this knowledge fails to illuminate us. While we can surmise that John Doe desires home-fries due to theories regarding genetic or environmental prompts which happen to coincide with that biological drive known as "hunger", we do not really know why it was that, while John was walking home from the diner, he got hit by a renegade truck. Nor do we know why John's wife, Sylvia, told him to stay home that day because she "had a bad feeling" about his going out. Nor do we know why John's son, Rufus, shot the neighbor's dog two days earlier. You can call in all the biologists and psychiatrists in the world, and possibly after several months, they might be able to determine the "how" of several elements of this scenario, but they'll never be able to determine the "why" of this succession of events because there is no obvious logic involved. And, that's life.

Hence, we have the "story", which is not so much a thing, nor a series of things, but a mad combination of all sorts of no-things that come together in a such away to amuse us or dismay us.  And it's a very strange occurrence to realize that some of these tales which filter into our brains, mysteriously become part of our own personal databank of experiences without ever attaining 'thingness' at all."

- from Transdimensionalism 1:01, a .pdf file I've just uploaded, containing material I wrote in 2010 and revised in 2015 (A link appears after the jump...).

I've labelled myself a Transdimensionalist on my blog profile, but, apart from the definitions found here, I've never really put my ideas on the line. Recently, however, I found a 2010 file in my vaults in which I attempted to cover the fundamentals of Transdimensionalism... but, like so many projects, it got lost somewhere in Neverland where all failed accomplishments go to die.

I've been kind of trying to outmaneuver myself lately though, so, I revised the file and uploaded it. For those interested, it can be found here: Transdimensionalism 1:01.

"Now there's a new theory on the block, called the "many interacting worlds" hypothesis (MIW), and the idea is just as profound as it sounds. The theory suggests not only that parallel worlds exist, but that they interact with our world on the quantum level and are thus detectable. Though still speculative, the theory may help to finally explain some of the bizarre consequences inherent in quantum mechanics, reports RT.com.

The theory is a spin-off of the many-worlds interpretation in quantum mechanics — an idea that posits that all possible alternative histories and futures are real, each representing an actual, though parallel, world. One problem with the many-worlds interpretation, however, has been that it is fundamentally untestable, since observations can only be made in our world. Happenings in these proposed "parallel" worlds can thus only be imagined."

On a related note, RPJ posted a link (on the Daily Grail) to the above article a few days ago which might interest you. Apparently the idea of parallel worlds has been kicking around quantum mechanics since 1957, but as Howard Wiseman, a physicist at Griffith University in Brisbane, Australia explains:

"But critics question the reality of these other universes, since they do not influence our universe at all," he added. "On this score, our "Many Interacting Worlds" approach is completely different, as its name implies."

Of course, whether or not the reality of a parallel world influences us or not is a matter of opinion...

The Nature.com article can be found here, and a Phys.org article here.

  1. Oh frabulous day...hurrah...the trans-dimensional circus is coming to down!

Intriguing look at one of my favorite subjects....awash in a pane of infinite dimensions, each spawned at every quantum 'if/then' to diverge into a parallel dimension...billions per second. There. Sort of gives "infinity" heft, don't you think? As if the it wasn't glitzy enough already.

And yes, I agree...whether or not the divergent reality of these parallel dimensions interact or influence is a matter of opinion -- sadly lacking in factual data -- but it does give rise to lovely speculation.

Fascinating topic! More to come please!

    1. Hah! Yeah, circus...

Well, I only touch a little upon the subject of parallel dimensions in the .pdf file, but my guess, is if they do exist, than it's reasonable to expect they do intercept with other dimensions at certain points, and, therefore, have the ability to influence other realities. It might actually explain a few anomalous things

And, then, of course, there's the interstitial realms! ;-)

    2. Of course they must exist -- quantum theory almost guarantees it. I would suggest that interaction, however, is extremely rare if it does occur in any significant state, else we'd have fairly hard evidence that these universes do exist.

Overall, this is one of those theories that fires the imagination and is so intriguing to consider.
