One minute, you were there,
facing a moon enshrined by clouds.
Then, the lights went out.
And, the clouds came down in long, luminous spirals
clinging to your skin with cool, misty tendrils.
Ice silvers the rims of your darkened eyes and hollow mouth;
your last breath lost in a field of whispers...
where, slowly, you will coalesce, drop by crucial drop,
with those who creep upon the earth, and the hallowed grounds they cross.

| October 9, 2025, 12:04 pm BOO! Well, the cloud above almost seems to resemble the word BOO in the sky... apart from the wonky B with wings. Not that I think this was intentional on the cloud's part, but, yes, it was a real cloud, as are all of the clouds in this post. This was a rapidly moving, low-flying cloud of a type that I have, yet, to identify. Sadly, it was also one of those clouds almost impossible to capture. I've witnessed a number of clouds of this nature. They tend to look like a word written in a child's script and often contain an O-shape. Two more clouds in the sequence - specifically the second and third clouds - are worth mentioning. Both are examples of dark or "black" clouds. The general explanation for black clouds is that we are merely seeing the dark side of a cloud positioned away from the sun. Which, of course, is logical, but doesn't really explain away the strange appearance of either of the clouds mentioned. The first appears to be a dark cloud wrapping itself around a white cloud. The next is an extremely dynamic cloud that seems to defy the presence of a single light source. That being said October is allegedly a cloudless month here in New Mexico. This hasn't been the case, but there were at least 5 days without clouds, which gave me some respite from my phone's camera but were otherwise unmemorable. The landscape expresses itself with clouds. Without them the sky seems ominously silent. Anyway, most of my Halloween posting is on Mac's memorial blog this year, and began with a clip from John Carpenter's horror classic, They Live! But, there's more to come. This is, however, my single seasonal post on Trans-D and I'm hoping we'll all make a point of celebrating that day in whatever way seems fitting. Before I sign-off, however, I'd like to post a dreamy, almost gothic AI video by a maker (and poet) who is somewhat off the typical AI trail, who can be found on the Mamta Herland channel. The video features some magical moments with swirling fabric and supernatural human flight guaranteed to induce a frisson or two. Oh, and the soundtrack features an original whispered poem which works perfectly. |
For more videos from Mamta (and more examples of why every spiral movement is golden), see this film starring some dancing (but,doomed) elementals, or this painterly ode to paint.
And, have a great Halloween! 🧡
