Rose Pentacle (Rose Detail) - clay pattern - 2025, DS. |
The Philosopher's Rose
Why is it that some of us must fight
to create (in) this world?
Why is it that some of us must fight
to stay alive?
Therein lies the Logos of
a Dying God.
But, then, I wonder:
why is it that the Rose
continues to unfold so
magnificently?

Amo, ergo sum. (I love, therefore I am.) |
"Because I love
The iridescent shells upon the sand
Take forms as fine and intricate as thought.
Because I love
There is an invisible way across the sky,
Birds travel by that way, the sun and moon
And all the stars travel that path by night.
Because I love
There is a river flowing all night long.
Because I love
All night the river flows into my sleep,
Ten thousand living things are sleeping in my arms,
And sleeping wake, and flowing are at rest."
- Excerpt from the poem, Amo, ergo sum, 1952, Kathleen Raine.
Very impressive clay rose pentacle!
ReplyDeleteThank you, BG. But, this is the Rose before it is firmly placed behind the Pentacle; a first and last view of the (more or less) finished product before the final cast. I've come around to see the piece as it was originally envisioned... as an entrance to a garden... of earthly... and unearthly delights. Seen here is it's first incarnation. In jewelry it would be worn over the heart. I have an idea for a pendant in which the Pentacle is a hinged gate. A sort of Rosegate. :-)
ReplyDeleteI hope to see this as you fully envision it. It is already quite exquisite.
DeleteThanks again, BG. Currently I'm just looking forward to achieving the first casting. If I can manage that - in spite of all ongoing setbacks - I'll feel more optimistic. I'll record it's progress on the blog. 🌸
